Meet the newest member of the Nason family...Botox the dog! We didn't even name him! We received him on December 23 when we went for Braeden's bilateral ptosis appointment with the plastic surgeon(One of the dr's has sharpeis and the slogan was something about wrinkles). Much to our surprise, it was a full on plastic surgeons office. I was waiting to see if one of the Real Housewives of Atlanta would walk through the door! So why were we at a plastic surgeon's office? Braeden has bilateral ptosis (droopy eyelids) and it is starting to affect his vision. We had thought that his pediatric opthamologist would perform the surgery, but apparently Braeden is not following protocol. Gasp! Braeden not follow the norm?! The muscle that needs to be operated on is not one that is commonly seen in pediatrics, but rather geriatrics. Therefore, there is not a pediatric specialist. This plastic surgeon does have privileges in the main OR at CHOA-Scottish Rite, which is the only place anesthesia (and us) will allow surgery because of his low muscle tone. In the waiting room, Braeden was definitely the youngest one there by at least 50 years. There was also a nice water feature that he kept wanting to play in. Definitely not a pediatric office! The appointment was relatively short because the surgeon will need to take most of his measurements once Braeden is asleep and not squirming around and squeezing his eyes shut. They will be removing some skin in the crease of his eyelid, and shortening the muscle to help his eyelids stay open. We haven't scheduled the surgery yet, but should hear soon. We are hoping that it's a relatively easy recovery with minimal bruising.
